Goodbye bike

Piers is selling the bike to a young frenchman who we met in Nha Trang who was working at the hotel we stayed in. He had given us excellent directions for a route to Dalat. He was about to move to Saigon for a Marketing job. Lots of trust in this transaction as we hope he will wire the money and he hopes we will leave the key and ownership document and bike and that no one will steal it before he arrives. We are leaving it at the Sunset Hotel and think he will come in 4 days from Saigon to collect the bike. I wanted Piers to ship the bike to the states. It would be less than $200 and it is considered a classic antique bike which he could use in the future or sell for a lot more. We took the bike to a bike wash place as it was really dirty from all the red clay roads. How do people make a living when they charge 20,000 dong (almost $1 for those of you too lazy to calculate) for a very thorough 20 minute hand wash?

  1. That is a beautiful vintage! Hmm, I think $200 is a pretty cheap price for shipping it to the States. It’s a shame the plans didn’t push through. That car wash definitely brought out the old beauty of that bike! It looked all shiny and smooth in the pictures.

  2. I always get affected when I hear ‘owner-bike separation’ stories. It sounded silly when I read it again, but who cares? :D Anyway, Hannah was right. Though it wasn’t economical, the wash service almost brought it back to its original glory, even after all those times of travelling the clay roads.
